Challenges and opportunities for the implementation of CCS in the steel industry

In a two days meeting, organized by the IEAGHG (IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme) and Steel Institute VDEh, 70 experts met in the Stahl-Zentrum in Düsseldorf to discuss in 20 presentations different aspects of CO2 capture and storage (CCS).

CCS means capturing CO2 from process gases, transport and deep ground storage of CO2 without possibility to return to atmosphere. A massive CO2 emissions mitigation during steel production is only possible by CCS or by hydrogen technology to be developed.

In addition to technical presentations including the European ULCOS project experts also discussed the costs of CCS for the steel industry.
