The Research Association for Steel Application ( FOSTA)

The Research Association for Steel Application (Forschungsvereinigung Stahlanwendung e.V., FOSTA), founded in 1968 by German steel-producing companies as a non-profit registered association, supports technical application research and development on the material steel. Membership is open to national and international companies, organisations and institutions with some connection to steel. The Research Association supports numerous projects with the aim of maintaining and improving the competitiveness of steel, as well as developing new areas of use. Such projects are financed through members’ subscriptions, the Association’s own funds, donations from industry, and from public and other non-profit organisations including, in particular, the Essen-based Stiftung Stahlanwendungsforschung (Steel Application Research Foundation). In the past, the Research Association has raised an average of about EUR 5 million/year for research projects.The Research Association for Steel Application is a member of


Tasks

  • Supporting and financing technical application research and development projects (to order),
  • Research management in the form of support and organisation of research work.
  • Publishing research results after completion of projects, in the “Forschung für die Praxis” (Practical Research) series of publications and in “Berichten aus der Anwendungsforschung” (Reports from Application Research), as well as through specialist events, and publications in specialist magazines.
