The sale of steel is a credit-based business – leading to serious levels of outstanding accounts for steel suppliers. The Steel Credit Security Office (Delkrederestelle Stahl) registers outstanding debts resulting from the business activities of member companies. From the development and composition of the figures, companies can early recognise risks regarding the solvency of their customers. If a buyer that has provided securities becomes insolvent, the Delkrederestelle Stahl realises these securities and makes the proceeds available to the members involved.
